Read Virginia

When children read what they enjoy, they learn to love reading and become better readers. The free summer reading programs at your public library will help your child keep reading and learning while having fun all summer long.

Research has shown that children who continue to read during the summer vacation perform better in the fall when school resumes, and the even reading for simple summer enjoyment helps children with literacy skills, while helping prevent learning losses.

The Library of Virginia has been conducting a study on the impact of the summer reading program.  We recently reported our findings.
